Each summer, if State funding allows, the Tracy Unified School District offers a Summer School Program for students currently attending Tracy Unified schools.  Three main programs are offered:

K-4:

This remedial program is designed for current Kindergarten through fourth grade students who are in danger of retention, who are not meeting grade level standards, or who are performing below average on standardized tests.  Intensive Language Arts/Reading and Mathematics instruction is given.  In order to be enrolled in this program, students must have a recommendation from their current classroom teacher or administrator, indicating that the student qualifies for this program.

5-8:

This middle school program is a strictly remedial program for students currently in fifth through eighth grades.  This program is for students who have failed and need to make up credits in order to graduate, who are in danger of retention, who are not meeting grade level standards, or who are performing below-average on standardized testing.  Remedial instruction in Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science is given.  In order to be enrolled in this program, a student must have a recommendation from his/her current counselor or administrator, indicating that the student qualifies for this program.

9-12:

This high school program is for in-coming 9th graders and current high school students.  District students who need to make up credits, or who wish to take a course to free up their regular-year schedule may apply to attend.  Remedial courses include; Algebra 1 A & B, Math A, Geometry A & B, English 9 A & B, English 10 A & B, Biology A & B, Earth Science A & B, Spanish 1.  The District also offers California High School Exit Exam Remediation Courses in English/Language Arts and Mathematics, for students who have previously taken, but failed the CAHSEE.  Strict rules and prerequisites apply to these classes.

The non-remedial high school courses include; Trigonometry, US History, World History, Art 1, and Physical Education.

Any student wishing to apply for the High School Summer School Program must complete an application packet, which MUST be reviewed and signed off by his/her high school counselor.

General:

Submission of an application does not guarantee enrollment into a Summer Program.  All courses in the Summer Program are contingent upon State funding.  Student enrollment is based on a first-come-first-serve basis, the district's ability to hire qualified teachers, and sufficient student enrollment per class.

The Tracy Unified School District considers Summer School to be a privilege that we are able to offer to our students.  In return for this privilege, the District requires all students to follow the strict attendance and behavior policies that are in effect during Summer School.

Enrollment/Application Process:

High School: Applications available at school sites on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 and are due no later than Friday, May 2, 2008.

  • Students currently attending Tracy Unified School District Schools will be given priority enrollment over out-of-district students. (Non-District students will be placed on a waiting list until all district students have been placed).  Feeder school graduating 8th graders who will be attending either Tracy High or West High in the fall are considered district students.  (The feeder schools are:  Jefferson, Banta, New Jerusalem, Lammersville, Mountain House, Holt and St. Bernard's.)

  • High School enrollment is on a first-come, first serve basis for District students.  Students must submit completed applications to their High School Counseling Office.  All high school applications must be signed off by a guidance counselor, to ensure that the student is enrolled in the proper course.

  • All applications will be date stamped upon receipt.

  • A notification letter will be mailed to you the last week of May.  This letter will indicate whether or not your child has been enrolled in Summer School.

Middle School (5-8) and Elementary (K-4): Applications available at school sites on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 and are due no later than Friday, May 2, 2008.

  • Grades K-8 are to return completed applications to their respective school sites.

  • For grades K-8, due to limited funding, Summer School programs will focus on remediation and review.  Priority will be given to students who are recommended for remediation, who need to successfully complete district proficiencies, who must make up credits, or who are failing or in danger of retention.  The District is not able to offer any Enrichment Classes.
