Special Board Meeting of the Tracy Unified School District Board of Education at 7:00 p.m. at Freiler Elementary School in the Multipurpose Room located at 2421 W. Lowell Ave.  This Special Board Meeting will review and adopt Budget Reductions that will impact Tracy Unified School District.  For more information, contact the Superintendent’s Office at 830-3201.

BTSA Leadership Meeting.  Program stakeholders, including representatives from District’s Human Resources, Tracy Teacher Induction Program, Support Providers, Administrators, and Tracy Educators Association will look at the Closure Conference as part of the clear Credentialing process in TUSD. District English Language Learners Advisory Committee meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. at the District Education Center, in the General Conference Room, located at 1875 W. Countdown to Kindergarten Program:

During Countdown to Kindergarten PARENTS will learn:

*      How to register a child for kindergarten

*      About Tracy Unified schools and programs

*      What kindergarten readiness skills are

*      Helpful hints and ideas to use in the next few months to help prepare your child for kindergarten

During Countdown to Kindergarten CHILDREN will:

*      Spend time in a kindergarten classroom with a kindergarten teacher

*      Meet some future classmates

Summer School Institute for GATE Students

The Camp invention program is a two week summer day program that fosters creativity, teamwork and science literary through hands on fun for students entering grades second through sixth grade. Students in Mrs. Stutz’s third-grade class will visit Lammersville School.  They will leave school at 8:30 a.m. and will return by 1:00 p.m.

Friday, May 9, 2008:

ELAC will be presenting “Dia de los Madres” (Day of the Mother) Celebration from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The celebration will include game booths, pińatas for the kids, entertainment and several raffles for 2 baskets that value up to $250.00 each.  Tickets for food and games can be pre-ordered or bought in the school office for $1.00 each.  For more information, please call the school office at 830-3300.

  • Pioneer Simulation for students in third-grade.  Students may attend an after-school sewing class to help make a part of their costume.  The boys will be making vests and the girls will make an apron or a bonnet.  For more information please contact Teacher, Yolanda Serna at 830-3300.

  • Bohn School has launched a major Fundraising project to raise money for two new play structures for our playground.  Students are designing tiles and so far the school has raised $1,500.00.  Bohn’s goal is to raise $15,000.00 for the kindergarten structure and close to $50,000.00 for the upper grade structure.  For more information, please call Teacher Lisa Mullen at 830-3300.

Central Elementary School:

Continues:

  • Yearbooks on sale now - Order your yearbook now - on sale for $18.00.  Make checks payable to Central PTA.

  • General Mills box tops.  This year’s goal is $1000.00. Central School is at $715.30, please keep turning in your box tops. Our last collection for the box tops will be in May.

  • Campbell Soup labels. This year’s goal is to earn enough points to purchase a PA system for the school which is greatly needed. To date we have collected 10,000 points towards our goal, we need 3,000 more points, please turn in your labels, help us reach our goal.

  • Help us recycle – This is a yearlong project, please help to promote a cleaner environment: empty ink cartridges and old cell phones.

 

Delta Island School:

Friday, May 9, 2008:

“Mother’s Day Tea.”  Students will present their mother or guardian with gifts and songs along with punch and cookies at 1:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria.

 

Freiler School:

Freiler STARS - NOR CAL Competition Results.  This event took place on Saturday, April 26th in Merced, CA.  These students were coached by Maralee Thorburn, green track Science Teacher.  Congratulations students and Ms. Thorburn!

McKinley celebrates Earth Day with our “Go Green Campaign”!

  • Wear green!

  • Recycling: each class will receive one small tub from the City to use to collect paper and paper towels. Teachers will be responsible for emptying their own containers into the blue recycle bin.

  • Read aloud!

  • Try to go the whole day without using paper!

  • McKinley’s pledge: students will have the opportunity to sign the banner on their way into the Multipurpose Room for lunch, pledging to do their part to help the environment.

 

North School:

Monday, May 5, 2008:

“Texas Roadhouse Drive-Thru Dinner” North School Fundraiser.  Dinner will be delivered between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; you must have pre-ordered your dinner.  This fundraiser will help North School with school activities.  Thank you for your support!

Students in fifth-grade GATE class will be creating their own businesses through the business simulation called BizWorld. The students will be writing their own business profiles, have specific job titles, working with sales projections, marketing, and writing up requests for loans from our guest Venture Capitalist.  This is a two week simulation that takes our students through math, writing, management, team work, creativity, and sales. Tuesday, May 6, 2008:

Washington Mutual Savings Program.  Between 8:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m., students may bring their money to deposit to their savings account.  Or open an account for the first time.  This is held in the West Park Library.

Wednesday, May 7, 2008:

Incoming GATE students “Open House” from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the West Park Library.

“Open House” from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  West Park and South School first through fifth grade students will participate in the first ever “Inside Out Musical Performance.”  This performance will be at the playground at 6:00 p.m.

Student Author Fair will be in both Libraries.

Classroom Visitations will be between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Penny Collection for Afghanistan

Inspired by the book Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.  Pennies for Peace educates American children about the world beyond their experience.  One penny at a time, they can make a positive impact on a global scale.  The pennies will be counted and rolled and put into check form and mailed to the organization.  The money will go towards supplies and the building of schools in remote places in Afghanistan. Books of Hope is a service-learning program where U.S. schools sponsor a school abroad and create books to help meet the students' educational needs.  South/West Park Elementary Student Council grades three through five has decided to take on another exciting challenge.  Classes will begin putting books together in late March.  They are voluntarily making books for students learning English in Uganda.  For more information, please contact Teacher, Julie Escobedo at 830-3328.
